Recycle, Replenish, Regrow

Recycling emphasizes the importance of minimizing waste and reusing resources, replenishing speaks to restoring what's been depleted, and regrowth is the result of these efforts. “Spring" ties it all together. It's a season to remind us why we spend all year composting, a time when we get to spread our newly transformed resources back into the soil to fuel new life.

Recycle

Recycle garden waste by sending it to the local compost pile. Missoula Compost has multiple methods of collecting all types and sizes of yard debris. If you already compost with Missoula Compost, simply set any yard or garden debris that doesn't fit in your bin right next to it. Smaller organic material, like pine cones or pine needles that might make a mess must be in a compostable bag or spare bin. We will collect this material on your regularly scheduled pickup day, and there is no need to call ahead. A small fee of $5 will be added for every three bags of extra material beside your bin or for an equivalent pile.

If you are not a current customer, or have a lot of yard debris, schedule a one time pick up online or call (406) 370-5876

Replenish

As a result of your last growing season, your soil exchanged its nutrients for plant growth. The soil is now depleted and may not have the resources necessary to foster new plant growth.  Fertilizing in spring replenishes these nutrients, giving your plants the boost they need to thrive.

Compost is a natural fertilizer. It reduces the need for synthetic fertilizer and, in a lot of ways, is better than synthetic fertilizers because it improves the soil long term. Compost improves nutrient density and increases the soil's ability to hang onto said nutrients (aka Cation Exchange Capacity). Compost also improves water retention and root penetration, while making your soil more resistant to erosion. You can learn more on our website. These are a few reasons why we highly recommend fertilizing with compost when planting in spring.

Missoula Compost offers fast and easy soil deliveries. Visit our website for prices and orders:

Regrow

After a sleepy cold winter, spring warmth thaws the soil and brings with it renewed energy  and vibrant life. We’ve recycled our organics, made them into beautiful soil, and prepared our lands with said soil; the only thing left to do is to plant. Watching little seeds turn into sprouts and eventually bloom is one of the most rewarding parts of gardening. Thank you to the compost community for recycling organics, gardeners for replenishing their soils, and the earth for our plants and pollinators.

Remember this when composting your unused or perished organics through the season to restart the cycle and prepare for continuous and prosperous growth seasons.

Share, Share, Share!

We want to see your compost pictures! Share pictures of your garden that benefitted from compost or topsoil we brought you. If you bought top dressing for your yard, let us know how it worked compared to other fertilizers you have used in the past.We would also love to hear if your weekly trash has downsized since you have been composting with us.
