Bin Got the Funk?

It’s warming up out there, compost bins are getting steamy, and maybe even a bit stinky? While extra heat is to be expected this time of year and indeed a necessary part of decomposition, there are ways to decrease moisture in your bin and the unpleasant smell that come with it. If your bin is starting to get funky, you can try adding more “brown matter” to your bin, such as leaves, grass clippings, yard waste, saw dust, or even pizza boxes. This helps reduce moisture and bacterial growth inside the bin itself. You can also use compostable bags in your counter top bin. We do offer rolls of 3 gallon compost bags and can drop them off along our route, just give us a call or send us a message.

Summertime, and the Living is... Sustainable!

Now that its summer, Missoulians are rearing up for some much needed live music. We couldn’t be more excited to be rolling out our green bins for this year’s concerts. We are pleased to announce that Logjam Presents is supporting organic waste diversion at all of their concerts in the ampitheater this season. Rest assured, when you attend a show this year, all of your chicken kabobs and compostable cups will be repurposed into compost. Logjam continues to use a three bin system at shows, which offer the disposing party options to recycle or compost in addition to trash. Now if we can just convince concert-goers to pick the right bin… be sure to spread the word about green bins at the shows this year!

Eco-Business Highlight:

Imagine Nation Brewing Co.

Our Eco-business highlight of the month is also one of our longest customers. Imagine Nation Brewing has made an impressive effort even through the pandemic to divert organic waste from the local landfill. We had the opportunity meet brew guru Sean, who walked us through the brew-to-bin process. Every new batch of beers will have a yeast byproduct that instead of being wasted in the trash, is being saved in green bins and hauled to add into a nutrient rich compost.

At Imagine Nation, we’ve got a center that brings people together, concerned about integrity, honesty, and decency. That’s not just the best of Montana, that’s the best of America, that’s the best of the human spirit.
— Dr. Cornel West

We are pumped that Imagine Nation Brewing is making these sustainable efforts for their business, and have encouraged other breweries to follow a similar model for wasted by-products. Thank you Imagine Nation Brewing, as you put it, “We are because of each other.”
